Stop Prioritizing Everything Equally in Your Business

September 23, 2026 · Elias Lazaris
Quick answer If you're building a business and feel like you have 10 things you need to do, chances are you don't. Most founders prioritize everything equally — social media, ads, website, hiring, tech — when in reality they only need one or two of those to get to the next stage. Figure out what's actually blocking your next stage, focus everything there, and worry about the rest later.

You probably don't have 10 things to do

If you're building a business and you feel like you have ten things you need to do, chances are you don't.

The problem I see most often when I do one-on-one consultation calls is that founders prioritize everything equally. Social media, ads, website, hiring a new person, tech — it all gets the same amount of weight. But realistically, you don't need all of that. You probably need one or two of those things to get to the next stage.

A real example: talking about ads before the website is ready

A lot of times, a founder's website isn't even ready, and they're talking to me about Meta ads. But you're not at that stage yet. Let's finish the website first. Put all your concentration there, and then we worry about Meta ads.

The time will come — just not right now

A lot of founders put too much energy into tasks that aren't urgent right now. The time for Meta ads will come — it's just not right now. Right now, what you need is a functioning website with your product on it: the proper description, the proper images, the proper layout and flow, the proper checkout. Then you move to the next stage, and the next, and so on.

Focus on the next step, not everything

Don't focus on getting everything done. Just focus on what you have to do to get to the next step.

FAQ

Why shouldn't founders prioritize everything equally?

Because most founders don't actually need to work on social media, ads, website, hiring, and tech all at once. Usually only one or two of those things are what's actually needed to reach the next stage — prioritizing everything equally spreads effort too thin.

Should I run Meta ads before my website is ready?

No. If your website isn't ready — proper descriptions, images, layout, and checkout — finish that first. Running ads to an unfinished website wastes the spend and the traffic.

How do I know what to prioritize in my business?

Ask what's actually blocking you from reaching your next stage, and put your concentration there. The rest can wait its turn.
